Performance Food Group of Texas, LP (PFG of Texas)
Performance Food Group in Richmond, Virginia acquired certain net assets of a local foodservice distributor and PFG of Texas was in operation with locations in Temple and Victoria. PFG of Texas customer base consists of “National Account”, “Vending” and “Street” business. PFG has had a long-term relationship with American’s Favorite Chicken (Popeye’s and Church’s) and Subway became a customer of PFG of Texas in April 1996. Other National Account business includes Dairy Queen, Kentucky Fried Chicken, TCBY, and A&W. The Vending business consists of delivering product to those companies that service vending machines. The Street business consists of a more specialized service to independent restaurants, day cares, health-care facilities and other institutional customers.
January 1999 was filled with activity as the move from 3 warehouses to the new distribution center occurred. The $15 million distribution center has approximately 300,000 square feet. PFG of Texas – Temple is the only major foodservice distributor located between Austin and Dallas. The new distribution center has 40,000 square feet of refrigerated space with five separate temperature rooms devoted to fresh produce. A fresh meat cutting operation shipped its first order in November 1999. The meat processing room located in the new distribution center is providing full service meat processing for PFG of Texas – Temple customers.
The company’s focus is on independent restaurants within a 100-mile radius of Temple. Our sales representatives who call on the independent restaurants are actually sales consultants. They work with individual customers analyzing menus, studying customer demographics, suggesting and implementing marketing and promotional programs, and assisting with inventory control. With the great Central Texas location, PFG of Texas – Temple has the opportunity to serve customers in Waco, Killeen, Belton, Temple and Austin area while expanding the vending and multi-unit chain business in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Southeast New Mexico.
In 1998 ID Magazine named Performance Food Group a Great Distributor Organization, the highest honor a foodservice distributor can receive. In 1999 the two Texas PFG Company’s were recognized as Pocahontas Distributor of the Year and Popeye’s Distributor of the Year.
PFG of Texas is involved with March of Dimes, United Way, Children’s Miracle Network, Chambers of Commerce, Texas Restaurant Association, Central Texas Restaurant Association, Temple College, Central Texas College, and several youth activities.
Performance Food Group has approximately 10,000 employee’s nationwide with 380 in Temple.
