Don’t be alarmed if you see Temple Police officers running down 31st Street on Tuesday morning.
Officers will be running with a purpose — carrying the Flame of Hope torch in advance of local Special Olympic games.
The Temple Police Department will be “Guardians of the Flame” as they participate in the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Officers will meet up with Temple Independent School District students at the Temple High School Wildcat Stadium at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The group of law enforcement officers, students and Special Olympic athletes will run south from the high school down 31st Street to just past Temple Mall.
The torch run is a public awareness tool and grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics.
“The Temple Police Department is proud to host our own leg of the torch run, joining together with agencies across the world,” the department said in a news release. “We hope you will come to see what it is all about.”
