BELTON — Belton Independent School District is preparing for a new school year with new principal and assistant principal appointments.

The district’s board of trustees approved promoting Jennisty Thomason as principal of Belton New Tech High School @ Waskow and Michelle Tish as principal of North Belton Middle School on Monday.

Superintendent Susan Kincannon introduced the recommended new hires to the board.

“You know Michelle — she’s been with us for 16 years,” Kincannon said. “She has 19 years of experience.”

Both Thomason and Tish have both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

“She (Tish) has been a teacher for us and an assistant principal at Southwest and Pirtle elementaries,” Kincannon said. “And she’s been the principal at Leon Heights and Tarver elementaries … and has a track record of success.”

Tish will replace Principal Joe Brown, who is to retire.

“She gets results, and we have a lot of confidence in her abilities,” Kincannon said.

Tish thanked the board for the appointment.

“I’m very excited to get started,” she said. “Thank you for putting your confidence in me.”

Thomason is replacing Ben Smith, who will be principal of Belton High School next year.

“We know her too — she’s been with us for 11 years,” Kincannon said.

Thomason has been the assistant principal of New Tech for the last two years. Before that she was the assistant principal at Lake Belton Middle School. She has a total of 12 years of experience in education.

“She has the support and the confidence of the teachers at Belton New Tech High School, and certainly has our confidence as well,” Kincannon said.

Board President Sue Jordan congratulated the new principals.

“I’m really excited,” Thomason said. “I can’t wait to continue to grow and learn.”

The board also approved appointing Cindy Allman as an assistant principal for Charter Oak Elementary School, which will open in the fall, and Michelle Mikeska as assistant principal at Miller Heights Elementary School.
