Temple Police Department is looking for the driver who struck and killed a woman in a wheelchair.

Judy Ann Simmons, 53, was pronounced dead Wednesday at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple, spokesman Cody Weems said.

Officers went at about 9:30 p.m. to a pedestrian accident near South 15th Street and West Avenue H. The officers said a white Chrysler 300 hit the woman, who was in a motorized wheelchair. Simmons was traveling on West Avenue H in a traffic lane, according to Weems.

Simmons was thrown from the wheelchair and landed in the street.

The Chrysler 300’s driver did stop and tried to perform CPR, and officers got to the scene and helped with CPR until EMS arrived.

Then the driver got into the vehicle and left, Weems said.

The search for the vehicle’s driver is ongoing and the case is active.
