A Temple man arrested in December in Bell County is now in federal custody for allegedly producing child pornography.
Shozo Tanaka, 61, was scheduled to appear Tuesday morning in a Bell County courtroom, but he was previously turned over to a federal agency, Bell County District Attorney Henry Garza told the Telegram.
Tanaka was picked up March 27 on the federal warrant, Bell County Chief Deputy Chuck Cox said.
Tuesday morning’s courtroom appearance was set for Tanaka to enter a plea on the aggravated sexual assault of a child charge filed against him by the Temple Police Department, the court docket for the 426th District Court showed.
Tanaka’s attorney is Steve Lee. Assistant District Attorney Shelly Strimple is listed as the prosecuting attorney.
A girl claimed Tanaka started sexually assaulting her when she was in the eighth grade. She was 15 when she made the report to Temple Police on Nov. 19, 2018.
An arrest affidavit said the victim told officers a family friend — Tanaka — sexually assaulted her and took pictures while he did it. The assault happened at his home and started in the eighth grade before she turned 14.
Tanaka allegedly admitted to the sexual assault and to taking the photos of the two of them during sexual activities, the affidavit said. He also had an immigration hold.
