Temple’s Blackland Research and Extension Center received a historical marker during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
The facility was originally opened in 1911 as Blackland Experiment Station, Substation No. 5, and over the years has helped research agricultural sciences along with helping farmers and ranchers locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture established the Grassland, Soil and Water Research Laboratory in 1973 to conduct joint research at the facility.
