ST. GEORGE, UTAH — Reigning NJCAA Division I national champion Temple College opened defense of its title with an 8-0 victory in five innings late Wednesday night over Chattanooga State.

Temple led 2-0 after the first inning and added single runs in the second, third and fourth frames before a three-run fifth.

The Lady Leopards (47-9), who are seeded sixth, continue the national tournament at 3:30 p.m. today against No. 3 Chipola (48-5).

Chipola defeated Lake Land 10-2 in five innings earlier Wednesday.

TC beat Chipola 6-1 in last season's championship game for the program's first national crown. The teams played earlier this season with Chipola winning 4-2.
