City council rejects H-E-B plat
Published: March 3, 2000
Temple City Council unanimously denied, 5-0, a preliminary plat for H-E-B/Market Place Subdivision on a 1.3-acre plot located at the intersection of 31st Street and Loop 363.The council approved the May 6 election ballot which includes member elections and city charter modifications.Temple Planning and Zoning Commission approved the H-E-B plat in December 1999 that includes the store's expansion into the neighboring Hartland Bank property that it owns. The council expressed concern over several issues including the extension's violation of city ordinances because it does not have public street access.Another consideration regarded how the shopping center parking lot would handle the increased traffic brought by a store extension. The plat had been repeatedly tabled at February council meetings at the company's request to give the firm the chance to meet Temple's requirements but the re-submitted plans were still found lacking by the city's staff. by Jonathan Walburgh
