Temple to welcome Russians
East meets West in Temple beginning Saturday when a group of eight Russian government and business officials visit the area to observe its attractions as part of the Library of Congress Russian Leadership Program Open World 2000."They are coming here on a cultural exchange that also includes community, government and non-profit information exchanges," said Raye Allen, co-chair of the visit along with her husband H.K.The visit has three main purposes, she said."First is health care with an emphasis on rural health," Mrs. Allen said. "The second focus area is economic development with an emphasis on small business. The third focus is public programming and volunteer services in the arts and humanities in Temple and Central Texas."The Russians will stay with host families while they visit, she said, with one foreigner staying with the Allens.The visitors will arrive Saturday and will eat supper at Cyclone Corral Bar-B-Q in Cyclone and go to a dance at Seaton Star Hall.
