Highs, lows mark area district starts

Unfortunately for the Academy Bumblebees, Friday night's 29-7 loss to District 25-2A foe Jarrell was not the worst thing that happened to them, nor was it the only thing on their minds.Already trailing Jarrell 20-7 at halftime, things just got worse for Academy, as head coach John Baker had to leave the game because of chest pains and was taken to Scott and White Memorial Hospital for observation.Academy assistant coach Mike McEachern said Saturday that Baker is doing fine, but would not comment further on the situation. Baker could not be reached for comment.Bartlett coach Craig Agnew, a close friend of Baker's, said he had visited Baker at Scott and White on Saturday."He looked fine," Agnew said. "They're just going to run some more tests."As for the Bumblebees' loss Friday, McEachern said Academy (2-2, 0-1 25-2A) played hard, but gave up too many big plays and did a poor job of tackling. On offense, he said linemen had trouble maintaining blocks and running backs had difficulty hitting the holes. by Robert Hollier
