Temple High assistant principal receives regional recognition

"I think I just had a gift for teaching and wanted to make a difference in young people's lives," said Temple High School sophomore principal Randy Carder.Recently, Carder was named the 2001 Region 12 Assistant Principal of the Year."It's a great honor. I was really pleased to receive it because I got into this so that I could more positively effect the students."Carder, who began his career in education as a special education teacher, has been with the Temple school district as an educator and administrator for nearly 12 years."I've taken many career paths over the years, and I decided around the age of 33 to make a difference in the education field," Carder said.Carder has also served as principal at Meridith-Dunbar Elementary School and for three years was assistant principal at Bonham Middle School."He always treats us fairly, showing no partiality or any prejudice," said Betty Anderson, an English teacher at Bonham. "As a teacher, I have also learned to trust him with the knowledge that he will respect my privacy and will just listen if that's what I need."I learned that whatever decision he made regarding a student was made because Mr. Carder felt it was the one that would help the student the most," Mrs. Anderson said. by Nicole Edwards
