Gatesville reaps 3A accolades

The Gatesville Hornets ran roughshod over their football competition last fall en route to a state championship. On Thursday, those who helped get them there got their due. The Division I titleist Hornets placed five players on the 51st Annual Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery Class 3A All-State football teams released Thursday. After capping his stellar career by rushing for 2,953 yards with 31 touchdowns, senior running back Taurean Henderson was named as the 3A Offensive Player of the Year. Kiff Hardin, who needed only four years in transforming Gatesville from a loser into a state champ, was the pick for Coach of the Year. Cameron had four selections to the TSWA's three elite teams, and Troy had two. Division II champ LaGrange totaled seven players and Marlin six, led by linebacker Jimmie Quinn, who was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year. by Will Wright
