Two from Heights, Badgers' Rutledge honored
Published: January 20, 2001
Beginning with a new team at a new school, Harker Heights football coach Ross Rogers almost made it look easy. Leaving A&M Consolidated for Killeen early last spring, all Rogers did was guide a first-year program to a undefeated district season and berth in the regional semifinals. That achievement earned Rogers kudos as one of three Coaches of the Year on the 51st Annual Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery Class 4A All-State football teams, released Friday. Two area players joined Rogers in receiving all-state honors. Lampasas defensive tackle Wondell Rutledge was named to the TSWA's second team, with Heights running back Nick Session ending his prep career as a third-team pick. Rogers tied for the top coaching honor with Joey Florence of Denton Ryan and Sam Harrell of Ennis, both of whom had teams in the state finals. Staff And Wire Reports
