For five weeks last fall, the six District 13-5A football teams engaged in tooth-and-nail battles that featured tough-as-nails players.The loop's competitive strength and individual talent was realized Saturday, as a dozen of its players made the 51st annual Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery Class 5A All-State teams.Included were Temple's DeWayne Brandon and Dominique Steamer, five from Copperas Cove and three from Waco High and two from Killeen Ellison.Statewide, Midland Lee running back Cedric Benson, who rushed for 2,871 yards and 43 touchdowns, was named as the Offensive Player of the Year.
