Ellison tops Tem-Cats; Fast start propels Lady Eagles to 59-44 win
Published: January 24, 2001
It was apparent from the outset that the Temple Tem-Cats were up against an Ellison that was going to be very quick and very aggressive. Unfortunately, the Tem-Cats didn't adjust to that style of play until it was way too late. Ellison solidified its lead atop the District 13-5A girls' basketball standings with a 59-44 victory over the Tem-Cats on Tuesday night at Wildcat Gym. All 14 players on the Lady Eagles' roster got in the scoring column. "They are a little quicker and a little more physical than we are," said Tem-Cat coach Susan Brown, whose team slipped to 7-14 overall and 2-4 in district play. "I thought they were a little too aggressive in the first half, but we have to adjust to that. We did a better job of that in the second half. They are the quickest team we've faced." Ellison, which is now 21-3 for the year and 6-0 in league play, dictated the tempo from the start. The Lady Eagles, paced by Courtney Ridgle in the opening minutes, went on an 8-2 run in the final two minutes of the first quarter to take a 14-7 advantage. by Tim Waits
