Wildcats best Killeen, 65-56
Published: January 27, 2001
It was pretty obvious that the eighth-ranked Temple boys basketball team wasn't exactly on top of its game early in its contest with Killeen on Friday. With the Kangaroos controlling the boards and repeatedly exposing their opponent's defense in transition and in the paint, Temple fell into an early 10-point hole. But the resilient Wildcats hung around. And as they had in their four previous district contests, they did what they had to do to pull out another win. Matt Williams tallied 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals as the Wildcats rallied and eventually pulled away to a 65-56 victory at Wildcat Gym. Travis Levie hit a pair of 3-pointers and seven free throws in the final 2:11 to help put the game on ice for Temple (23-3, 5-0 in District 13-5A). Marcus Venus overcame early foul trouble to drop in 20 points and Alex Prunty added 18 for Killeen (14-12, 2-3). by Tom Day
