Wildcats enter homestretch; No. 7 Temple boys set for second half of district play
Published: January 30, 2001
Five down, five to go. Halfway through its 10-game quest for the District 13-5A championship, the Temple boys basketball team is right on schedule. The 23-3 Wildcats not only extended their winning streak to eight games in a 65-56 win over Killeen last Friday, but they also improved to 5-0 in loop play to maintain sole possession of first place. And as they head into the second half of the district schedule, their stock continues to rise. The Wildcats jumped up a spot to No. 7 in the latest Class 5A state rankings released Sunday by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. They'll carry that ranking and the same lofty expectations to Copperas Cove today for a 7:30 p.m. matchup with the Bulldogs (19-9, 1-4). by Tom Day
