The Temple City Council Thursday unanimously approved a lease with the SPJST that will allow the construction of a new facility to house the Social Security Administration offices currently located in the W.R. Poage Federal Building.The city will lease SPJST property at 520 N. Main St. for $1 a year for 10 years.The location near the U.S. Post Office in Temple is the site of state headquarters of the Czech heritage organization. A museum on the property was established in 1970.Under an arrangement with the General Services Agency, the city will act as the landlord for the building, City Manager Mark Watson said.He said the city would contract out landlord responsibility to Public Facilities Investment Corporation, who would finance, build and maintain the facility during the lease term for the Social Security Administration. sportsThe coaches have changed, but the expectations remain the same for Temple's varsity track teams as they gear up to host their annual meets today and Saturday at Wildcat Stadium.Weather permitting, Coach Larry Dearen's first season leading the boys team opens in earnest this afternoon at the Wildcat Relays. Field events get under way at 2:30 p.m., the 3200 meter run at 4:30 and the remaining running events at 6. There will be no preliminary races.Among the teams scheduled to compete are Grand Prairie, Belton, Corsicana, Harker Heights, Bryan, McGregor, Killeen Shoemaker and District 13-5A rival Waco.Coach Stacy Lisenbe's girls follow suit on Saturday at the Tem-Cat Relays. Another day of rain, wind and cold enveloped Central Texas and the eastern half of the state on Thursday, forcing area schools to postpone or cancel their scheduled sporting events this weekend.The biggest local event is today's Wildcat Relays, which features nine boys track teams in a single-day meet at Temple's Wildcat Stadium.Coach Larry Dearen said a final decision whether to hold the meet will be made at 10 a.m. today. Saturday's Tem-Cat Relays, also at Wildcat Stadium, is on as planned. Temple's tennis teams won't be competing at the Austin ISD tournament today and Saturday because that event has been canceled. The Temple's boys golf team will go ahead with its scheduled appearance at the Austin ISD Invitational today and Saturday.Both of Temple's soccer teams will be in action tonight against Georgetown. The Tem-Cats will be in an 8 p.m. game at Georgetown, and the Wildcats will host the second-ranked Eagles at 8 p.m. at Woodson Field.
