Flooding lingers in Texas
Published: September 1, 2001
A lingering storm system deluged Texas with heavy rain on Friday, turning roadways into rivers, closing schools and prompting the evacuation of several homes. No injuries were reported, however. All major roads in Bee County were closed and people were being urged to stay home, said Bee County Sheriff Bob Horn. Numerous roads also were closed in Duval, Goliad, Jim Wells, Live Oak, San Patricio and Victoria counties. Classes ended early at schools in Goliad County. The biggest problems were in Central Texas along the Guadalupe River, where rain had fallen for most of the week. Schools in Cuero, Yorktown and Myersville were closed Friday, where officials said the Guadalupe could crest at flood level by noon Saturday. by The Associated Press
