When No. 9 Georgetown backed the 12th-ranked Temple boys basketball team into a corner early in their contest Tuesday night, it seemed the dam was about to break in on the frustrated Wildcats. But an early 11-point deficit and the game-long foul trouble of star post Matt Williams only served to unite the Wildcats, who embraced their latest test of mettle with gritty play and clutch individual performances. Temple forced a key defensive steal and used a lay-up by David President and a free throw by Dominique Steamer with 8.5 seconds remaining to pull out a wild, emotional 59-56 win over the Eagles at Wildcat Gym. "I had missed two free throws earlier and knew I had to make it up somehow," Steamer said. "I got another chance and it was a relief to hit that free throw to give us some breathing room. "It was neat to have everyone in the crowd yelling my name. It was great experience. Someone had to step up. Matt, David and Travis (Levie) usually do that, but everyone helped out tonight."
