Charles Helmer Temple Fire and Rescue. The Temple department had raised more than $65,000 during a three-day boot drive and more than $4,000 in other contributions. In the past week, the fire dept. has also been selling T-shirts for $12 each."The total has reached well over $75,000 as of today," Helmer said Monday. "We had 288 shirts at first, and they went in the first 10 minutes. So we had to reorder 1,000-1,500 more. The printer said he'd keep on making T-shirts as long as we needed them."We actually quit taking monetary collections today, but people are continuing to come by the station and leaving money. sportsThe Goliaths of Texas high school football don't loom so large anymore. Austin Westlake and Tyler John Tyler, the top-ranked Class 5A teams in The Associated Press' high school football poll for much of the season and both state finalists last year, were victims of upsets this weekend. Their losses have shaken up this week's poll, leaving The Woodlands as the state's No. 1 team in 5A and Galena Park North Shore as No. 2. It left Copperas Cove as the new No. 3 team, followed by Lufkin and Mesquite. In Class 3A, Cameron's 42-0 blanking of Manor jumped the Yoemen from No. 7 to No. 6. In Class 2A, Rogers' 38-0 victory over Hutto moved the Eagles from No. 5 to No. 4 in the state. Other area teams receiving votes in this week's poll are Academy and Rosebud-Lott in Class 2A. The Bees, who will host this week's showdown against Rogers, received two votes. The Cougars received one vote after knocking previous No. 4 Mart out of the 2A rankings with its 36-18 upset victory last weekend. Last weekend's shocking losses didn't end with Austin Westlake (3-1) and Tyler John Tyler. Midland Lee, the state's three-time defending champ, lost 21-7 to El Paso Franklin and dropped out of the poll with a 2-2 record. by The Associated Press
