Moves up deservedly good for Bartlett player, coach

After wading through last week's rumors and speculation about the future destinations (and changing minds) of Temple's two Division I football prospects, it's at least nice to report on some folks who know where they're going. Bartlett's Dee Monfort, a tight end-defensive end, will sign with Iowa State when national signing day rolls around on Wednesday, said former Bulldogs coach Craig Agnew, who rang with the good news Saturday night. The 6-4, 240-pounder gets a guaranteed scholarship, said the coach, adding that Monfort visited Ames in mid-January and "liked it a lot. He's pretty excited about it." Monfort is the second area kid from a Class A or 2A school to pledge to a Big 12 school. Jarrell's Jontue Fears-Hayes plans to sign with Baylor on Wednesday, the day non-binding oral commitments become official. Monfort becomes the latest in a long line of former Bulldogs headed to college. Agnew, for one, thinks making the jump from Class A to Division I-AA or Big 12 doesn't matter |
