New coach Baltzell leads Temple swimmers into Winter Classic

Young but hungry.That's the theme for this year's Temple High School swim team, which is staging its coming out party on Saturday at its annual Winter Swim Classic at the Hardin Swim Center.First-year coach John Baltzell, an assistant the last five years, believes there's a lot of potential in his Wildcats, who have only two seniors but several returning veterans.Baltzell, 37, takes over for longtime coach Terry Jones, who left this past summer to inaugurate the swim program at Class 4A Magnolia. Having spawned from a good program at Wisconsin-Stevens Point, a perennial contender for NCAA Division III national honors, the new coach believes he can pass on his love of competition to his students."I like coaching because I've been doing it forever, but as a collegiate swimmer I enjoyed it so much," Baltzell said. "I just want to bring the same concept of the joy of competition to the kids."The leaders on the team are its two returning regional competitors
