New coach Mosnia likes Wildcat soccer squad's potential

If you want to know the expectations and aspirations of the 2002 Temple High School boys soccer team, look no further than Oscar Rivero."My personal goal is to make this year unforgettable," senior forward Rivero said. "It's my last year and I want to help my teammates have a great year, too."I'm confident about our team. I know we're going to make it to state. No, we're going to win state. I'm sorry if that sounds pretty (bold), but that's my main goal and I'm going to do what it takes to get there."Yes, the bar has been raised for the Wildcats (4-3), who will play host to Belton (1-2-1) at 8 p.m. today at Woodson Field. That tends to happen after a playoff run like the one they had last year, when Temple advanced to the Class 5A Region II final before falling 1-0 to Klein, then the top-ranked team in the nation.Although the Wildcats brought back many of the players from that 18-6-2 team, there's been a change at the top.Gone is Dan Heger, Temple's coach of 13 years who left to start up the men's and women's soccer programs at McMurry University. The new taskmaster is Tarcisio "Cizo" Mosnia, a 25-year veteran of the collegiate and high school coaching ranks. Mosnia came to Temple after leading Corsicana to an 18-8-1 record in his only season at the 4A school. So far, the transition has been smooth."It hasn't been very difficult because they're very coachable and they're hard-working," Mosnia said of his new charges. "When you have those characteristics, it makes it a lot easier for a coach." by Greg Rajan
