Temple boys end long losing streak; Wildcats defeat Waco 68-67 in OT

When Temple guard Andrew Crews was fouled with 5.13 seconds left in overtime, head coach Bruce Etheridge had exactly whom he wanted at the free throw line. Crews made both free throws to give the Wildcats a 68-65 lead, and the Wildcats held on to win 68-67 on Friday night at Wildcat Gym, snapping a seven-game losing streak. "It's a big win for us, especially for the younger guys," Temple post Julius Thomas said. "I had faith in my teammates in the fourth quarter and overtime to pull it out." Etheridge said the game was like the "Thrilla in Manila" between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. "It's good to get a win," the coach said. "We don't always do the right thing at the right time, but you take the good with the bad. The game could have gone either way. I'm very proud of my kids. They played hard." After Crews' free throws, Waco guard Milton Canady was fouled on a three-point attempt with 0.4 seconds left. He hit the first two, bringing the Lions within one at 68-67, but missed the third. Temple then rebounded to preserve the win. The victory improved Temple to 5-17 and 1-2 in District 13-5A. Waco dropped to 2-18, 0-3. by Nick Taylor
