Any hopes of building on last Friday's overtime victory over Waco were pretty well dashed for the Temple Wildcats about four minutes into Tuesday night's battle with Killeen Ellison.By then, the Eagles were up 20-0 and things weren't going to improve a whole lot from there for the Wildcats as Ellison carved up Temple 86-38 at Wildcat Gym.Ellison stretched its overall record to 19-5 and stayed at the top of the District 13-5A standings at 4-0. Temple slipped to 5-19 and 1-3."I was hoping for a little better performance," Temple coach Bruce Etheridge said. "My hat's off to Ellison. I don't know if we could have gotten within 20 of them on our best night."As far as Ellison coach David Manley was concerned, it was the Eagles' best night."We played as well as we could play," he said. "That was as good as we've played all year. We were coming off an emotional win at Killeen and that game always takes so much out of us win or lose, so I'm excited about how we played (Tuesday)."The Eagles did it with precision execution of their offense and by forcing Temple into a bevy of turnovers with their pressing defense. Five different players scored for the Eagles in the first four minutes to post a monstrous 20-0 advantage. The Eagles hit eight of their first nine shots while Temple missed its first six before Ronnie Gaines drove the baseline and hit a leaner at the 3:18 mark for the Wildcats' first points.Temple would only get a J.C. Lowe 3-pointer the rest of the quarter and the Wildcats trailed 26-5. by Tim Waits
