Temple stages relays

For the first time in recent memory, the Temple track teams have decided on a twinbill, as the boys and girls squads will co-host the Wildcat and Tem-Cat Relays today at Wildcat Stadium.It's the opening meet of the year for the boys. The girls began their season Feb. 22 at the Bryan Viking relays, where they finished ninth.The competition will begin with the field events at 2:30 p.m. The running events finals are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The only exception is the 3,200 meter run, which is at 4 p.m. There will be no preliminaries.The boys division will feature McGregor, Bryan, Harker Heights, Killeen Shoemaker, Waxahachie, Cedar Hill and Waco will go up against Temple.The girls field includes Killeen Ellison, Copperas Cove, Killeen Shoemaker, Harker Heights, Waco, Mesquite, McGregor and Bryan.Last year, Bryan won the Wildcat Relays and Abilene won the Tem-Cat Relays. The Temple boys finished in third place, a point out of second. The Tem-Cats finished fifth at their meet, which was shortened due to rain.Though it's early in the season, the Wildcats and Tem-Cats have different goals for today."We want to get some good, competitive running and jumping in," boys head coach Larry Dearen said.
