$12.7 million of bonds would help police

More than 35 years ago, the Temple police station was built on 13,000 square feet of land across the street from the Santa Fe Depot.It was designed to accommodate 40 employees. With the growth of the city the building was expanded in 1988 to 29,000 square feet and included an expanded jail and office space to accommodate 105 employees.Today the department has nearly 150 employees and such limited storage facilities that files and documents are stored in rolling shelves that are wheeled apart for access. The jail is used for storage, and detainees are booked at the Bell County jail.
