Temple businessman Bill Jones III announced his candidacy for mayor Tuesday afternoon in the Municipal Building council chambers before more than 50 supporters, including members of his family and city business leaders."Looking at the good things that are happening in Temple, and with the experience we have in our council and professional city staff, I believe that I can definitely make a contribution and help take us to the next level of success and beyond," Jones said, adding, with a smile and glance at his wife, April, "so, if I still have permission, I am today announcing my candidacy for the position of mayor of Temple."Citing the opportunities of the North American Free Trade Agreement and Temple's position on Interstate 35, and the need to promote local schools and grow local businesses, Jones said "these objectives must be done within the framework of a sound strategic plan and sound financial and fiscal policy. by Anna Foster
