Dr. James Boyle, Temple school superintendent, received a 5 percent raise from school trustees during Monday's school board meeting and will make $126,000 this year.Boyle, 53, made $120,000 in 2001 and $90,000 in 1997, which was his first year as Temple superintendent."He has done a remarkable job leading the district where we need to go," said John Gauntt, school board president. In addition to the raise, the board extended Boyle's contract through 2004."He originally had a three-year contract and every year the board can pass off or extend on the contract and that contract has been extended annually," Gauntt said. The board uses a four-page evaluation form to gauge the superintendent's performance. It scrutinizes educational leadership, district management, board and community relations and student performance. The board also outlines priorities for the new year and any recommendations of the district.Specifics about Boyle's job performance or any recommendations made by the board were not disclosed.Trustee Mary Nash Walker said Boyle surrounds himself with effective people who perform their jobs well. She said staff leadership and district goal making are areas he has excelled in. by Paul Romer
