Belton sends 13 to swimming regionals

Belton's first-year swimming program will have 13 swimmers compete at the Class 4A Region IV championships on Feb. 8-9 at the Texas Swim Center in Austin. The Tigers competed at the District 14-4A meet on Saturday in Burnet. Those placing in the top six advanced to regionals."I am so proud of the kids," Belton coach Sally Law said. "They made a commitment in August and all their time and effort has paid off. We are very excited about the upcoming years and the growth of the program. We have kids with tremendous potential."Three Tigers will compete in individual events. They are Zack Hissey (200-yard individual medley, 100 butterfly), Jen Moen (500 freestyle) and Ryan Anderson (100 breaststroke). Belton will also send five relay teams to regionals. The boys teams that qualified were the 200 medley, the 200 free and 400 free. On the girls side, the 200 medley and 400 free qualified. The members of the relay teams include Hissey, Moen, Anderson, Chris Dietz, Tyler McClendon, Donald Collier, John Holmen, James Steinke, Jeremy Niersmann, Stephanie Malabonga, Claire Armstrong, Katy Snoddy and Lauren Hering.
