TC beats North Central Texas in conference volleyball clash

North Central Texas gave Temple a strong challenge in Tuesday night's college volleyball match at TC Gym, making it last long enough to delay the Temple men's basketball team's first practice of the new season.However, TC's Leopards had enough weapons, skill, and poise to defeat NCTC's game Lions 30-26, 30-24, 25-30, 30-27.Temple improved to 22-11 overall and, more important, 5-0 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play to keep pace with defending league champion Hill going into those teams' duel at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Hillsboro.North Central fell to 12-11, 1-3.Coach Charles Watts' Leopards overcame a 10-point deficit to win the opening game, cruised to victory in the second one, then lost a sloppy third game before recovering and staving off the Lions to win the closely contested fourth game and the match."We showed a lot of character and heart tonight, and that's the way we should play all the time," Watts said.
