The Scott and White 2002 Holiday Lighting Ceremony touched on the season of family as well as the celebration of life before Santa Claus arrived to help turn on the lights. At least 300 people attended the event on a pleasant Monday night, which also included Christmas-time tunes. Dr. Alfred Knight, Scott and White president and chief executive officer, welcomed the crowd. He told those present the holiday time is a season of family and a celebration of life. Then, Dr. Don Cauthen, Scott and White Clinic board of directors chairman, read Santa looks as if he may need a little boost this year to deliver to every child in the Temple area. The Santa Pal toy collection and distribution center is taking its second-to-the-last shopping trip this weekend to continue purchasing toys for nearly 300 needy families in the city. But after this weekend, Santa Pal officials are not sure if they are going to be able to buy all the toys on their list during their third round of shopping Dec. 14 because of a lack of funds. Charlie Kimmey, Santa Pal chairman, said the center began with about $10,000 in Lines at the post office are nothing compared to what they are going to be in a week or two, and postal officials are recommending parcels and letters meant for retrieval by the holidays be sent now.
