Temple boys soccer blanks Waco Reicher

Tyler Gerard scored twice as the Temple boys soccer team shut out Waco Reicher 5-0 on Friday in the Wildcat Kickoff Showcase at Woodson Field.Today, Reicher will play Austin Westlake at 11 a.m. at Woodson Field. Temple and Westlake will conclude the Showcase with a contest at 3 p.m.The Wildcats broke open a scoreless tie late in the first half to dispose of Reicher, the defending TAPPS 3-4A champion.Gerard made it 1-0 with 8:58 before halftime after scoring on a cross pass from Nathan Henderson. Reicher nearly tied three minutes later, but had a shot hit off the cross bar. Then, with 29 seconds left in the half, Scott Copeland stole a clearing pass and deflected it into the net for a goal.Temple poured it on midway through the second half. John Brockway assisted Gerard on his second goal, on a breakaway with 25:39 left in the game. Nathan Lindzey scored off a 25-yard shot less than two minutes later, and Josh Barnes capped the scoring with 19:35 to go after heading in a direct kick from Ryan Flanigan. From Staff Reports
