A&M, UT seek to set own tuition

AUSTIN (AP) The two largest public university systems in Texas want the power to set their own tuition, and with state government in a $9.9 billion hole, the Legislature is expected to consider an idea it has rejected before. The idea, called tuition deregulation, is among several higher-education issues expected to be debated during the legislative session. The University of Texas and Texas A&M systems are also seeking increased funding, fewer state rules and a greater commitment to research. Students are seeking a voice on the UT system
