Temple, Belton kick off seasons

After one month of practices, the Temple and Belton boys and girls soccer programs are ready for some competition. That's just what Temple and Belton will get today and Friday as all four teams either begin regular-season play or compete in scrimmages."Once the season begins, we will know what to work on," Temple boys soccer coach Ciso Mosnia said. "Things are only hypothetical right now. We will know more about ourselves after this weekend."The Temple boys host Waco Reicher on Friday at 7 p.m. at Woodson Field in the Temple Kickoff Showcase, which will also feature Austin Westlake. Westlake will play Reicher at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The showcase then concludes at 3 p.m. when the Wildcats battle Westlake.The Temple girls play Lampasas in a scrimmage today at 11 a.m. at Woodson Field before beginning the regular season Friday at 9 a.m. in the Carrollton Tournament against host R.L. Turner.The Belton boys will have scrimmages today and tomorrow. Today, the Tigers play at Round Rock Stony Point at 7:30 p.m. and Friday they will scrimmage at Hewitt Midway at 6 p.m.The Belton girls are set to compete in The Woodlands Tournament against the host Friday at 10:30 a.m.Belton girls coach Barry Elkins said the rise in classification from 4A to 5A status was the reason he wanted The Woodlands Tournament on the Lady Tigers' schedule.
