Museum Director Stephanie Turnham announced Tuesday the museum has received a $100,000 pledge from the John Hood Garner and Alleen Garner Charitable Trust.
“They lived in Belton,” Ms. Turnham said. “He was a county commissioner for years and years. She was a nurse at the Belton Sanitarium.”
“The families of both John Hood and Alleen Garner are proud to support the Bell County Museum’s effort to add this exciting new wing to the museum,” said Wendell Williams, trustee for the charitable trust. “John Hood and Alleen Garner have figured prominently in Bell County history and this gift will perpetuate not only the rich history of the Central Texas area but also that of our family.”
The Garners were lifelong Bell County residents. He served more than 18 years as a county commissioner. She was a nurse at the Belton hospital until 1960.
Ms. Turnham said the museum will receive the $100,000 incrementally.
“It’s a pledge that’s going to be donated to us at $20,000 each year for five years,” she said, noting the museum will receive its first payment in December.
