Annual Christmas parade set for today

The City of Temple will deck the halls and line the streets celebrating the holiday season Monday, Dec. 1, with the annual Christmas parade.

The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. and will head down Central Avenue going east from 25th Street past the Municipal building and ending at 4th Street.

More than 150 holiday floats are expected, along with appearances by local dignitaries, marching bands, cheerleaders, a contingent from Fort Hood and Santa Claus.

Following the parade, winners will be announced for best float cash prizes. Area merchants, vendors and organizations, including SPJST, will be hosting their own holiday festivities including live music, carolers and horse-drawn carriage rides.

“It should be a wonderful event,” said Mayor Bill Jones III.

The city will close traffic to 25th Street at 3 p.m. the day of the parade. Only neighborhood residents and merchants will be allowed to enter and exit.
