Texell Federal Credit Union plans expansions

The revitalization of downtown Temple has been given a shot in the arm with the announcement that Texell Federal Credit Union Temple will move its headquarters into a currently vacant three-story bank building.

The building at 17 S. 1st St., was built by First Federal Savings and Loan and later housed Guaranty Bank.

Overall, the move to the 1st Street location is a part of $3 million in expansion and relocation projects planned by the financial institution.

Texell also has plans to expand its 31st Street branch and relocate the Avenue G branch to downtown Temple, said Eldon Wulbrecht, president and chief executive officer of Texell Federal Credit Union in Temple, on Tuesday.

Construction is expected to start this month on the 31st Street expansion, he said. He said the project is expected to be complete in early September 2004.

Wulbrecht said the expansion includes an additional 3,000 square feet of lobby and office space, a larger member and visitor parking area, four additional drive-through lanes, an ATM machine upgrade and a by-pass traffic lane parallel to the existing ATM and night depository lane.

Texell has made several recent purchases to prepare for the Avenue G branch relocation to downtown Temple.

Lots purchased on North 11th Street between Central Avenue and West Adams Avenue in downtown Temple adjacent to Texell’s 24-hour ATM location will be used to develop an eight-lane drive-through facility to replace the drive-through lanes at Avenue G, Wulbrecht said.
