Unemployment rate rises 6.4 percent

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas rose slightly to 6.4 percent in December as jobs declined in professional and business services, the Texas Workforce Commission said Friday.

The Texas unemployment rate ticked upward from 6.3 percent while the national unemployment rate fell in December, from 5.6 percent to 5.4 percent.

The statewide unadjusted jobless rate actually fell to 5.8 percent from 6.1 percent in November.

In Temple, unadjusted unemployment dropped from 3.7 percent in November 2003 to 3.3 in December. For December, the Temple labor force numbered 29,681, with 28,688 workers employed and 993 unemployed. In December 2002, Temple
