After jumping out to a 14-2 lead, Concordia cruised to a 64-51 American Southwest Conference West Division win over UMHB at Woltman Gym.
Concordia improved to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in ASC West play. UMHB, which has lost four straight, fell to 12-11, 5-7.
“Concordia had a great team effort offensively and defensively,” said UMHB coach Margie Williamson, whose squad had 27 turnovers. “They played well together. We didn’t do anything well.”
Danielle Barnett (19 points, five steals) led a group of three double-digit scorers for the Tornados.
Tira Sanders had 14 points and grabbed 10 boards for Concordia. Christy Hubbard scored 12 points and a game-high six assists for the Tornado.
Lisa Martinez paced UMHB with 17 points and nine rebounds. Jennifer Gilchriest collected 14 points and Connie Maughan added nine points and seven rebounds for the Lady Crusaders.
For the game, UMHB shot just 35 percent from the field and was one of 11 from three-point range.
The Lady Crusaders, who won the rebounding battle 46-30, shot just 26 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 30-18 halftime deficit.
“We’ll continue to be in this downward spiral until we decide to climb back up,” Williamson said.
