Texas was awarded the No. 1 seed for the NCAA tournament Monday, and will be joined in the chase for the national championship by six other teams from the Lone Star state.

The Longhorns (50-13), the Big 12 regular season champion, got the top national seed even without winning their conference tournament title for the first time in three years.

Texas had already been named as a host site along with defending national champion Rice (43-12), which is the No. 6 national seed and will host an all-Texas regional.
