Officers later found a shotgun in front of a house in the 100 block of North 1st Street, as they searched unsuccessfully for a second suspect, Skip Carmouche of the Temple Police Department reported.
The unidentified man was arrested in the 600 block of North 1st Street, on a charge of evading arrest with a vehicle, a felony.
Police were dispatched after a caller said a Hispanic male in a brown car had for about 20 minutes been watching the 3rd Street Food Mart, 1319 N. 3rd St. As the officers approached the intersection of Nugent Avenue and North 3rd Street, they saw a golden 1995 Buick Regal on the north side of the convenience store.
A Hispanic male was behind the wheel and another man was in the front passenger seat. When the two officers walked up to the car, the driver started the engine. Ignoring repeated commands to stop, he drove away.
