Hawks unable to stop Tornado in overtime

BELTON — The Texas Tornado came in as winners of 16 straight. It took more than 60 minutes, but that streak is up to 17 now — barely.

After a strong rally that included two third period goals to force overtime, the Central Texas Blackhawks came up just short.

Texas’ Brad Flaishans scored with only 53 seconds left in the bonus period to lift the Tornado to a 5-4 Texas Cup win over Central Texas on Sunday afternoon at Bell County Expo Center.

The North American Hockey League South Division leading Tornado (25-3 for 50 points), improved to 4-1-0 in Texas Cup play. Central Texas (12-15-1) fell to 0-4.

After trailing 4-2 midway through the third period, Central Texas used goals by Blane Pohl and Frank Rizzo to energize the home crowd of 1,142 and send the game into overtime.
