Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, Arlene Wohlgemuth conceded defeat to Chet Edwards.

U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, clung to an 8,100-vote lead early Wednesday in the 17th Congressional District race against State Rep. Arlene Wohlgemuth after narrowly winning the crucial Aggie vote of Brazos County but many precinct boxes were still out.

With 269 out of 324 precincts reported, Edwards had a lead, with 51 percent, or 103,002 votes, compared to Rep. Wohlgemuth
