Milano’s Chad LaGrone confirmed Friday he is resigning his post as head coach of the Eagles, only a few days after former Rockdale coach Casey Creghan accepted the head job at Hillsboro.
“It’s something that’s been adding up over the last few years,” LaGrone said. “I just have other things I’d like to pursue.”
LaGrone has not made his resignation official as of yet, but said it is a definite thing, and the district is already accepting applications for a replacement.
LaGrone was 44-38 in his eight seasons with Milano, and has not been in the playoffs since 2000.
“Milano has good kids who work real hard,” he added. “It’s just time for me to go elsewhere.”
LaGrone said he has not got any jobs lined up but is in the process of searching.
In Rockdale, the screening committee has narrowed a list of applicants which began at about 200.
According to school superintendent, Dr. Walter Pond, the screening committee hopes to interview candidates next week and hopes to present final applicants before the school board within the next few weeks.
Pond could not give information as to how many applicants were being reviewed nor how many would be presented before the school board.
“We initially set a deadline to hire by March 29,” Pond said. “We may be able to move that up because the committee is working very quickly. I can’t guarantee we will move that up but it’s we are moving along well.”
The candidate will replace Creghan, who compiled a 66-41-2 record at Rockdale. Creghan will remain as athletic director until the end of the school year, but was told by school officials that his contract would not be renewed.
According to Hillsboro ISD personnel director Barbara Robinson, Creghan has accepted the position of athletic director and head coach at Hillsboro. The Hillsboro school board will vote on his application on Monday for final approval.
