In all, more than 7,800 students arrived on Temple school district campuses Tuesday, according to preliminary estimates released by the district.
At many campuses, and elementary schools in particular, getting all those students to the right classrooms and then getting them home in the afternoon presented the biggest challenges of day one.
While many youngsters said they were happy just to see old friends and make new ones, teachers and administrators look at the first day as the foundation for a successful school year, both academically and procedurally.
This year many of the potential challenges were mitigated by a meet-the-teacher night many campuses held Monday evening.
