The city council will discuss a requested zoning change for Meadow Village apartments at its regular meeting beginning at 5 p.m. today in the Municipal Building.
Edgewater Affordable Housing, L.P., an Austin company representing the owner of the complex, requested the property, zoned general retail district, be rezoned to planned development, multiple family two district.
Edgewater hopes to take over management of the apartment complex and make improvements to it. Some of the planned improvements cannot be made under its current general retail zoning.
The apartment complex is located in a busy retail area on South 31st Street and it has fallen into disrepair.
The complex has a history of being the source of numerous police calls. At the last council meeting, a Temple Police sergeant reported that during the 2004-05 fiscal year, officers responded to 663 assorted calls at the complex.
