The city of Temple issued a $3,712,000 permit for the renovation of the Meadow Village Apartment Complex this week.
A zoning change for the complex was the source of contentious debate during two recent Temple City Council meetings and a Temple Zoning Commission meeting.
Mark Gross, president of Concept Builders of San Antonio, the contractor issued the permit, confirmed it was issued for a project being undertaken by Edgewater Affordable Housing of Austin, which is renovating the complex, on the interior and exterior of the apartments.
Nearly a month ago, Temple City Council denied on a 4-1 vote the second reading of a zoning request that would have cleared the way for Edgewater to take over management of the 200-unit complex and make improvements to it. Some improvements the group planned for the complex were not allowed under its current general retail district zoning.
Edgewater had requested a zoning change to multiple family two district, which would have allowed the planned improvements, one of which included covered parking.
