Local entrepreneurs and the myriad of organizations involved with the project cut the ribbon on what investors hope will foster new businesses in Temple.
The TC Business Training Center was built in cooperation with Temple College, the Temple College Foundation, the city of Temple, the Temple Economic Development Corp., and the Temple Chamber of Commerce. It was ultimately made possible by a $720,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce helping to generate the total construction cost of $1.2 million. The idea behind the center was to create classrooms for continuing education as well as form a space that will not only draw in new businesses to Temple, but also help them succeed.
The three-story structure houses the offices of the Temple College Foundation, classrooms and computer labs for Temple College workforce training, and an entire floor dedicated to what is known as the business incubator. There are 12 offices in the incubator, each with computer, phone line, and office furniture. New businesses can lease these offices without having to pay utility deposits and other startup costs and will receive individual counseling from the incubator staff in everything from Tax returns to marketing to make sure they are on the right track.
